How to change my engine oil?

Changing your engine oil is an important task that should be performed regularly to ensure the longevity and performance of your vehicle. It is a relatively simple task that can be done by most car owners, with just a few basic tools and some knowledge of the process.

Before starting, you will need to gather the following materials:

  1. Oil filter wrench
  2. New oil filter
  3. New oil (make sure to use the correct type and viscosity for your vehicle)
  4. Drain pan
  5. Funnel
  6. Rags or paper towels
Step 1: Locate the oil pan. This is typically located on the bottom of the engine and is usually a large, round or rectangular metal pan.

Step 2: Place the drain pan underneath the oil pan to catch the old oil as it drains out.

Step 3: Remove the oil drain plug using a socket wrench. The drain plug is typically located on the bottom of the oil pan and may have a hexagonal shape.

Step 4: Allow the oil to drain completely, this may take several minutes.

Step 5: Once the oil has finished draining, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.

Step 6: Locate the oil filter. It is typically located on the side of the engine and may be cylindrical or canister-shaped.

Step 7: Using the oil filter wrench, loosen and remove the oil filter. Be careful as the filter may contain hot oil.

Step 8: Wipe off any debris or oil from the filter mounting base before installing the new filter.

Step 9: Apply a small amount of oil to the seal on the new filter, this will help it to seal properly and make it easier to remove next time.

Step 10: Carefully install the new filter and tighten it by hand. Avoid overtightening, which can cause damage to the filter or the filter housing.

Step 11: Use the funnel to pour the new oil into the engine. Check the owner's manual or the oil fill cap to determine the correct amount of oil for your vehicle.

Step 12: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.

Step 13: Check the oil level using the dipstick. Add more oil if necessary.

It's important to note that the frequency of oil change is different for different vehicles and also depend on the driving conditions. It is recommended to check your vehicle's owner manual for the manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals.

By following these simple steps, you can easily change your engine oil and ensure that your vehicle is running at its best. Remember to dispose of the old oil and filter properly, as they can be harmful to the environment.
